The Improvisational Drum Kit and Hand Drum Program is intended for the advanced drum/percussion student, high-school level and up, who has already put in solid time learning the fundamentals of rudiments and reading.
This is a study of the nature and the essence of improvisation to enhance listening, trusting and accessing in order to develop response without thought, in the joy and the art of the music. It will help to nurture a discovery of what is natural for you.
It is a journey of looking deep inside to where the music is truly emanating from towards becoming a well-rounded player by incorporating the tools of improvisation.
These lessons will help access the individual’s core-creative place and learn to trust one’s self and one’s musical intuition. This is not book study, rather it is intended to be an experiential companion to develop your musical abilities and expression.
The drum study will include, but not be limited to; centering; breathing; listening and communicating; generosity to the music and other players; effects of showboating, giving the notes space; letting the music be a mystery and a surprise to you; letting go and allowing your musical vocabulary to be accessible by playing from your heart space; and trusting from your experiences of this process that the music will come.
