Camden Shaw Cello Solo
Bach, Kodály & Ligeti
Camden Shaw Cello Solo<br>Bach, Kodály & Ligeti Some of the darkest, as well as the most technically formidable works in the entire Cello Repertoire, breathtakingly expressed and interpreted from the heart and hands of one of the most accomplished young cellists of our time, Camden Shaw.

Playing a falsely labeled instrument, understood to be made in the early 1680s, that has astounding and incomparable depth and breath of tone that must be heard to be believed, Camden is one of the outstanding students of Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music. He merges subtlety of emotional undulation along with technical intricacy and complexity in conveying this very eclectic album.

I was speechless during the sessions. Camden took me to another universe with his Kodály. It transcends, transforms and transports. There is no other way to express it. Only the greats have ever played this work. I have been a deep aficionado of the cello all my life and I was astonished by this and still am when listening back to it. This is a must-have, must-listen, for the many enthusiasts of the instrument and its associated literature.

Camden Shaw wrote; "Each of the three works is a behemoth, and I want to thank Ira for the support and energy he brings to every recording session. This album was a wonderful collaboration and I think the music speaks for itself in a very natural way. I hope it is as much of a joy to listen to as it was to record."

This was captured Direct-to-PCM with only two microphones and with no equalization or compression, in an intimate acoustic space, in July and September of 2009.

It was a privilege to have been a part of this with an artist such as Camden Shaw. Please experience this.

"I have been playing the CDs over the last few days. I am enormously impressed. Their sense of realism is unlike any other CDs or recorded musical performances I have heard before. I really feel the musicians are right there in the room with me. Their wide dynamic range, 'presence' and clarity make a very faithful and truthful performance."
Ross Pogson – Australia, having heard our Mendelssohn/Debussy String Quartets and Camden Shaw Cello Solo albums.

"Behold. This cellist will be the best amongst equals in the years to come."
"...with his musical maturity Shaw, who is only 21 left me speechless."

Of the Kodáky: "Camden Shaw exemplifies profound understanding and proficient mastery of this musically and technically challenging masterpiece of the cello repertoire"
David Kan - Music Reviewer for 6Moons

"The young cellist is dynamic and brave in his playing, and this recording takes a totally different perspective: a solo concert in an intimate, small space lending a wonderful up close and intimate perspective to the textures and tones of Shaw’s instrument and his vivacious presence."
Nelson Brill - Music Reviewer for The Stereo Times

"I just love quality of recording and music itself. Well done."
Sergey Tokarenko - Hong Kong
